The Mick Sturman Memorial was held today at Jack’s Lake — and before we go any further, a quick correction: contrary to what some may have heard, this wasn’t the infamous two-rod match. That was Pete Nichols, caught cheating on the Thames with two rods back in the ’80s! His memorial is on July 13th. Sorry for the mix-up, Mick!
The weather was chilly overnight, with a touch of drizzle in the morning, but it cleared up nicely. Anglers on the East Bank were treated to some welcome sunshine during the second half of the match. The dam wall was left open again today for day ticket holders.
Twenty anglers competed, and the lake fished well overall. The silverfish battle was fierce, with Andy G, Dev, Big Bogdan, Mick Mordicai, and Chris Stanton all dodging the dreaded blank and picking up vital league points.
But it was Jack Glover who stole the show. Despite catching some silvers, it was his 31lb net of mostly carp that secured top spot and £100. With back-to-back wins — including last Saturday — we wouldn’t be surprised to see Jack sporting some shiny new gear soon.
The Framers:
- 1st: Jack Glover (Peg 31) – 31lb (mostly carp) – £100
- 2nd: Lester (Peg 10) – 26lb (carp and a few silvers) – £60
- 3rd: Vasile (Peg 37) – 23lb 10oz (all carp) – £40
Section Winners:
- Non-members end: John Eldred (Peg 24) – 15lb 15oz of silvers – £10
- Members end: Kamil (Peg 33) – 11lb 7oz mixed bag – £10
Special Mentions:
Big thanks to Michael Carter for his help during the weigh-in, Andy Gosland for spotting a draw error, and congrats to Graysen on a PB Perch!
